Understanding Diagnostic Test Costs
(for Self-Pay Patients):
During your private cardiology consultation, I may recommend diagnostic tests (such as ECGs, echocardiograms, blood tests, or scans) to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
Important: Please note that these diagnostic tests are provided and billed directly by the private clinic or hospital where they are performed. My professional fees cover only the consultation services provided.
Transparent Hospital Pricing: The hospital or clinic will have their own pricing structure for these tests. I recommend that you request an estimate directly from the hospital for any recommended tests before they are performed.
Direct Billing: The hospital or clinic will bill you directly for these services.
Guidance Provided: I will always discuss any necessary tests with you in detail during your consultation, explaining their purpose and guiding you on how to obtain cost estimates directly from the relevant facility. My aim is to ensure you have a clear understanding of the overall process and potential costs involved in your private cardiac care pathway.”
Self-Pay Price Guide for Common Diagnostic Tests:
| Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG):
A quick and non-invasive test that measures your heart’s electrical activity. By placing sticky sensor patches on your chest and limbs, we can see if you’ve had or are currently having a heart attack or other heart-related issues. This essential test provides a vital look at your heart’s health and rhythm. |

| Echocardiogram (Heart Scan):
An echocardiogram (or echo) is an ultrasound scan that uses sound waves to create live images of your beating heart. | 24 Hour ECG- 7 Day Holter ECG:
A Holter monitor is a small, wearable device that continuously records your heart’s electrical activity. Used for 24 hours or up to 7 days, this portable ECG monitor helps cardiologists detect irregular heart rhythms and other conditions that a standard ECG might miss. If you can’t exercise, medication can be used to simulate the effects of exertion on your heart. |

| Stress Echocardiogram (stress echo):
A stress echo combines an echocardiogram with an exercise test to show how your heart performs under physical stress. By creating live images of your heart while you’re exercising, this test helps doctors understand if your symptoms (like chest pain or shortness of breath) are caused by heart disease , a surgical procedure could improve your heart’s function or if you have an underlying problem with a heart valve. This advanced diagnostic tool provides a detailed view of your heart’s health that a resting echo or standard stress test might miss. |

| CT coronary angiogram (CTCA):
A Cardiac CT (or CTCA) is a powerful, non-invasive imaging test that creates detailed, 3D pictures of your heart and its blood vessels. This advanced diagnostic tool helps doctors to: assess your overall heart health, identify blockages in the arteries, diagnose various cardiac conditions, plan effective treatment strategies. How Medical Insurance Covers Your Private Cardiology Costs:
Many of my patients choose to use their private medical insurance to cover their cardiology consultations and treatments. I work with all major UK medical insurers to make this process as smooth as possible for you.
I am fully registered and ‘fee assured’ with all major UK private medical insurers. This means the private cardiology consultation fees and diagnostic test charges are within the limits set by your insurance provider, ensuring you won’t face unexpected shortfalls (beyond your policy excess).
For your convenience, your medical insurer will be billed directly for my services. If your policy includes an excess, I will invoice you separately for that specific amount.
Crucial Note: To ensure seamless cover for your private cardiology appointment and any recommended diagnostic tests, it is essential to obtain pre-authorisation from your medical insurer before your visit. This helps confirm your cover and provides peace of mind regarding the cost of your private cardiology care.
